Remove the side panels if possible to check what’s underneath.  

Tips:

-if there is a membrane covering a fully-foamed hot tub, you’ll want to check behind it.
-Check for black mold and rotting foam
-Check for bald/uninsulated spots where the owner may have removed foam to access the plumbing for repair, or where the foam has sagged and settled.
-Feel around for wet foam (indicating leaks).  Wet foam decreases R-value and makes the tub weigh more
-Check for evidence of pests (rodents & insects) mentioned in 6-H and 6-I
-if fully foamed, poke and jab around to test for hollow spots, pockets and tunnels created by rats or insects.
