There’s cheap and high end versions of skirting that at first glance may look almost identical.
Some skirts last much longer, maintain their look and can be treated easier and more effectively than others, depending on materials, workmanship and engineering.
Tips:
-Lower quality plastic skirting tends to warp and buckle as it ages, becomes more brittle with age, and is more prone to crazing and fading if exposed to direct sunlight.
-Flat ledges and horizontal grooves on wood skirts are bad for wet climates because they collect dirt & retain moisture, accelerating environmental attack.
-Cedar skirts last longer than other kinds of wood.
-Tongue & groove skirting is good for extreme temperatures because there’s some play as the materials swell and shrink with the heat and cold. Solid printed panels may pull at the fastening screws and break off when they shrink and bulge & bow when hot.
